When Did You Get Sick of Wellness?

My great grandmother had a saying «there are no excuses for not being clean». But now we are far beyond taking a bath. From once a week to at least once a day, but we do no longer take a bath only to clean of dirt, we exfoliate, we shave, we moisturize, we oil, we use masks, and leave ins and serums and protectors and what not. And if we leave the bath and go to the kitchen, don’t you think anything got easier. From boosting your metabolism at morning with some serious water to eating clean, non-prosessed, local produce regularly in perfect size bulkes while not forgetting to meditate, journal, plan and exercise also, all in one day. House chores? Believe me, there are pages for perfect solutions to every problem in your life, but maybe all the solutions combined have become the problem.

It’s not that I don’t endorse several of the ideas, but it’s all too much. The guilt from not managing to do it all, from not looking like a bombshell when you go shopping for groceries while passing 14 year olds that have a far deeper understanding of colour coordination and face contouring than you ever thought was possible. Covering their beautiful young skin with layers of who know what, to look like perfect dolls, when let’s be honest the layers should have been far greater on my own face as the skin has decided to start its decline years ago. It is just not enough hours in the day to sleep 8 hours, work 8 hours, and then cook, exercise, plan, pay bills, wash clothes, catching up with your family and so on. How can you on top of that be a professional in so many fields?

But how exiting wouldn´t it be to be like that? Imagine waking up, already heavily moisturized as Hailey Biber suggests, going to the bathroom that is spotless after your steaming session last night (no chemical cleaning), putting you hair up in a non hair-breaking scrunchie, washing your face with a 5 step routine, doing your makeup with Anastasia Beverly Hills, blowing out your hair with a Dyson, putting on a perfect outfit that matches your true season, and grabbing a glass of lemon water before going to work. I forgot the morning yoga and meditation part, but you get the picture. Who wouldn´t feel great if they could live like that? It looks perfect? I applaud the people that manages this and really live life the way they feel is perfect. I wish I had the time and energy to accomplish everything in every video and feel like I was on top of everything. Bought every cream and makeup product and could test it all out. We are all people who love to try to do what others do. We like to prove to ourselves that we can do it also, that we are no less than them.

However, for those of us that do not feel that this can be accomplished why can we not leave the guilt and stress behind? As a presumed counterreaction to the pressure instilled in people through social media you have a new, may I call it "genre", that shows "real life". They show how people are NOT perfect, not organized and not looking picture perfect as they wake up in the morning. They do a great job in giving a fellow human being a reality check from the non stop perfect life content comming your way. For a second you might even feel a sense of relieve as you stop on this "normal" persons reel. But why must this person or others show that they have flaws just to make you feel normal, or good enough or whatever it might be? Have we all just been too obsessed with measuring up, not in real life, but online, on an internet that gets more fake everyday?

There is a call for all of us that wish we could do everything, but know its unrealistic, to find our own course. If you can figure out what you really want to spend your time on everyday, and you manage to do that, then you are successful, no matter if foot cream is the only moisturizer you had time for that day. Then let´s just hope and pray that a solar storm will soon knock out all electricity, so when the heating is gone those not newly shaved legs of yours can give you and edge you didn´t think you had. Who´s laughing now...
